LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kobe Bryant scored 10 of his 18 points in the third quarter, five Los Angeles reserves finished in double figures and the Lakers beat the Chicago Bulls 106-78 on Sunday night for their third straight victory.
Los Angeles blew the game open by scoring 18 straight points to finish the third quarter and start the fourth for an 81-60 lead with 9:45 remaining.
The Bulls weren’t closer than 15 points after that, and wound up losing by their biggest margin ever to the Lakers. The previous record margin was 27 points in 1968.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kobe Bryant’s shooting touch was off, so he wanted to help out in other ways.
“When you’re not shooting the ball well, you have to lead by example and make the rest of the guys understand that even though you don’t shoot the ball well, it doesn’t mean you relax on defense. If anything, you pick it up,” Bryant said after the Lakers beat Detroit 103-91 Friday night.
His shooting picked up in the fourth quarter after he had gone 2-for-14 in the first three periods. He made two 3-pointers, had a three-point play and scored 11 points in the final 5:38 to help Los Angeles pull away.
Bryant wound up with 19 points and seven assists. While Bryant was struggling from the floor, Lamar Odom took up the slack and finished with 25 points and 15 rebounds. Read the rest of this entry »
HOUSTON (AP) — Tracy McGrady is injured again, but the Houston Rockets star says it’s not that serious this time.
The seven-time All-Star strained his right elbow late in the first half of the Rockets’ 93-90 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night. He was taken to a hospital for tests and a doctor said McGrady should be healed in a week.
“It’s definitely good news,” McGrady said. “I actually thought it could have been a lot worse than what it was.”
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Not only did Bruce Bowen successfully guard Kobe Bryant, he even outscored him.
Bowen went 6-of-6 from 3-point range, sinking them from his favorite spot in the corner, and the San Antonio Spurs cruised to a 107-92 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.
Bowen finished with 23 points in the Spurs’ fourth straight victory. He is the team’s defensive star, so his success there wasn’t much of a surprise. Read the rest of this entry »

Many of us Lakers / Kobe fans have been frustrated to no end with the constant rumors, bickering, trade rumors, etc. For those of us like me, check out this Lakers’ fan rant on Youtube. Unlike that pathetic Britney Spears video that popped up weeks ago, this one is actually good!
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Peja Stojakovic went on a long-range scoring spree, and Chris Paul was a generous playmaker as each rewrote the Hornets’ record book.
Stojakovic made a franchise-high 10 3-pointers, and Paul broke another mark with 21 assists Tuesday night in New Orleans’ 118-104 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.”It was a good night for our team,” Stojakovic said in obvious understatement. He missed just three of 13 shots from behind the arc and finished with 36 points. He was only 2-of-8 shooting 2-pointers.By the fourth quarter, there was a sort of collective sigh of resignation from the Lakers’ sellout crowd of 18,997 each time Stojakovic got the ball behind the arc.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kobe Bryant has had so many buzzer-beaters and 50-point games, he’s lost count. When he blocks a dunk attempt — now that’s memorable.
The Los Angeles Lakers were leading by seven points midway through the fourth quarter when Bryant made the ultimate defensive stop on Utah’s Andrei Kirilenko. The two-time NBA scoring champ then got six of his 33 points in the final 4½ minutes to secure a 119-109 victory over the Jazz on Sunday night.”I really really enjoy that challenge, because it’s a mano-a-mano type of thing where somebody challenges you to meet you at the rim,” Bryant said after his third block of the season and 470th of his career.”When you have that type of situation, they see that you’re not going to take a charge because you’re just lining them up. So they know they have to either go over the top of you or go through you. I saw him coming down on the wing, and I just tried to time it and get up there and see if I could catch him. I timed it pretty well.”Playing their second straight game against a reigning division champion, the Lakers made it two in a row after humbling the Suns 119-98 at Phoenix on Friday night. Bryant was 13-for-19 from the field and fellow guard Derek Fisher added 19 points, including a career-high 13 free throws.Andrew Bynum had 15 points and nine rebounds off the bench before fouling out with 55 seconds to play.”Andrew’s always a little big more reserved and a little bit more shy when he plays, but it looks like he’s starting to come out of his shell a little bit,” Bryant said. “I think having games like this, — particularly against a team like Utah that’s very physical — I think it helps out his confidence a lot.”Deron Williams led Utah with 26 points and Carlos Boozer added 23 points and 12 rebounds.
PHOENIX (AP) — Vladimir Radmanovic made all four of his 3-pointers and scored 19 points, and Kobe Bryant added 16 points and 11 rebounds, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a stunning 119-98 rout of listless Phoenix in the Suns’ home opener on Friday night.
