Its a great place for fans of Kobe to discuss Kobe’s greatness, or fans of the Lakers or other NBA teams, to discuss their teams past, present and future, and to blow off some steam when things aren’t going the way you had hoped. Who is he? Kobe “Bean” Bryant was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on the 23rd of August, 1978. Kobe was drafted 13th overall in the first round of the 1996 NBA draft, by the then Charlotte Hornets. He was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers from the Hornets 15 days after the 1996 draft for center Vlade Divac, in what will go down as one of the most lopsided sports trades in history of any sport! When Kobe was six years old, his father decided to go play pro basketball in Italy. Kobe enjoyed the lifestyle there and became fluent in Italian. He learned to play football (soccer), and is still a great fan of it today. His favorite team is FC Barcelona and is a big fan of FC Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard and Barça star Ronaldinho. For those of you who wonder how the middle name of “Bean” was thought of, Kobe’s father’s nickname was Joe ‘Jellybean’ Bryant. His parents decided to use the last part of Joe’s nick name for Kobe’s middle name, and the rest is history.
